I perused the sights of countries, people and the Seven Wonders of the World. I tasted various cultural foods, but never once was I able to change the culture I was born into.
I visited church once. I sang their songs, lifted my hands the way they did, prayed their prayers. I learnt a new language, started reading a new book, and went to meetings every Sunday. Funny thing is, even though I acted like a Christian and did Christian things…I wasn’t a Christian.
I perused the sights of many religions. I tried them all on for size. Never once was I able to change the culture I was born into…the culture that lay deep within my heart, a calling from deep inside the bosom of the universe…come.
Blood dripped down a cross, into the ground, across time, through my walls. His mangled body held mine in a scarlet embrace. His heart beating mine to life.
I visited Jesus once. Blood dripped down my lips, the cup he gave heavy in my hands. Tears streamed down my face as I witnessed His sacrifice. He gasped bubbles of blood as He told me He loved me. Anguish poured out my heart, forming mud below the wood in the ground. I clutched mangled fingers into the earth, wanting so badly to touch His face one last time. As He died I felt alone, I seemed alone…but I wasn’t alone.
A rock moved, the earth shook.
The call came.
“Come”
I answered.
