Have you heard about her? This woman is amazing! She has a noble character. Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value. Wow! In a man’s world, her husband has full confidence in her! He trusts her. All her life she does good things for him, never evil.
She gets up early before dawn and provides food for her family and servants. She plans ahead! She thinks about things before acting. Proverbs 31 Woman buys a field and plants a vineyard! A vineyard could keep her set for life. She can sell the grapes or make wine to sell to the public. This lady has an aptitude for business dealings.
She works hard and she is strong. Running a family business and keeping the home in order is not an easy task. She watches over her affairs and makes sure that her business is profitable. Her lights don’t go out at night either. She makes use of every minute.
Not only is she a shrewd businesswoman, but she is charitable. She gives to the needy and welcomes the poor.
She doesn’t worry about hard times. Her family is covered in scarlet, a reference to the blood of Christ. She has been faithful to take care of what He has given to her and also to increase it. She knows that her work and His faithfulness will result in provision during hard times.
She wears the best clothes and has the most beautiful furnishings in her home. Everyone knows what kind of woman she is, and they respect her. She is dignified and has more wisdom than most.
Because of her character and intelligence, her husband’s house is in order and he is counted among the prominent leaders in the community. I’m not sure what he does for a living because it seems that she does it all. But he is a leader. I knew there was truth in that old saying, “behind every great man is a great woman.”
She is faithful and willing to teach others. She doesn’t have a lazy bone in her body.
Her children adore her and her husband praises her. He knows he has a prize.
“Charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Give her the reward she has earned and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.” (Proverbs 31: 30-31 NIV)
It seems that fearing the Lord is the smart thing to do. It certainly worked out for this woman. She knows what to do and how to do it to achieve her goals.
Like I said, I want to be Proverbs 31 Woman. But if I can’t be her, surely I can learn from her example and be like her.
