“Take, eat; this is my body.”
A prayer is given as we begin to remember our Lord in His death. I contemplate His suffering, the whipping, the pummeling of fists, the crown of thorns…The bread is passed and I partake; Thank you, my Lord, for what you have done. Just hours earlier He had been betrayed by one of His own, deserted by all but one, denied, not once, not twice, but thrice.
“Drink from it, all of you; for this is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for forgiveness of sins.”
My heart is heavy and I begin to cry as I see Him in my mind’s eye, blood everywhere, barely recognizable as a human. His head is bent as He carries the cross, the splintered wood scraping across his frayed back.
I take a sip of wine, swallowing hard as I picture Him on the cross.
“Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing.”
They cast lots, dividing His garments, they sneer and jeer…”save yourself!”
My breath is short as I imagine the heaviness of the Father’s wrath, bearing down on His Son, and I realize just how truly saved I am. Saved from the judgment that I deserve, because of His love.
And then sweet release…
“Father, INTO YOUR HANDS I COMMIT MY SPIRIT.”
Tears flow freely now and we raise our voices in praise, our joyful hymn telling of how He bore His cross, and proclaiming His precious gift of salvation.
“And He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed.”

Oh, that each time we took communion we would reflect as deeply as you expressed in this article! You used your words to great effect; I will not receive the elements again without reflecting on the great cost He bore to redeem me! Beautiful piece!
What I might change - really nothing as this is just the length this piecse needed to tell what it did.
