The birds were singing their beautiful morning song from the treetops outside Susan’s window. The sun coming up over the horizon promised a beautiful June day with a cloudless cerulean blue sky. Susan lie in bed with her arm over her head thinking about the day ahead; her last day of being single. She hardly slept a wink last night thinking about all the things that had to be done before 3:00 P.M. Throwing the covers from her, she jumped out of bed and threw her robe on as she headed for the kitchen.
“Hey mom,” said Susan as she gave her mom a peck on the cheek, ”Can you believe that by this afternoon I’ll be Mrs. Allan Gregory? I can hardly believe the wedding is here at last.”
“I know Susan. I wish I could be more enthusiastic, but you know how I feel. Are you sure you are in God’s will by marrying Allan? It isn‘t to late to back out.”
“Oh Mom, how can I help but be in God’s will. Allan is the most considerate, kind, loving, religious man I’ve ever met.”
“That’s what bothers me Susan, I agree with everything you say but the part about being religious. I know he believes in God, he prays, he reads the Bible, but he doesn’t think he needs to believe in Jesus Christ. He talks a lot about helping others, giving money to good causes and all of that, but that isn’t the same as having a personal relationship with Christ. You know it would be better to back out now than spend a lifetime in misery. You know what the scriptures say about two walking together in agreement. After you walk down that isle and say your vows it’s for life!
“Yes, Mom, you’ve told me this before,” said Susan as she grabbed a cup of coffee and headed out of the kitchen. I have so much to do thought Susan, dismissing her mom’s words from her mind.
When Susan finished all of the last minute details she looked at the clock and saw that it was time to get dressed for the wedding.
“Oh, Susan, you make a beautiful bride. I just love your dress. Be sure to throw your bouquet my way,” said Josephine, Susan’s maid of honor. “Come on, it’s time to get to the church.”
There couldn’t be anyone as beautiful as Susan thought Allan as he watched her walk down the aisle.
“If there is any reason these two should not be joined together in holy matrimony, speak now or forever hold your peace, said Pastor Smith.”
“I object!“ said a loud voice from somewhere in the room. I have told Susan, in my Word, that she should not be unequally yoked with someone that doesn’t believe in me. I have also warned her that you cannot walk with someone that you aren’t in agreement with.” She knows that Allan says he believes in me, but doesn’t see why he has to believe in my Son. She is disobeying me by marrying him.”
No one moved as they sat and stood in stunned silence. The only sound that could be heard was someone crying as though his or her heart was broken.
“Susan! Susan! Time to get up. You have a busy day ahead of you,” said Susan‘s mom.
Susan sat straight up in bed, throwing the covers off she ran to her mom, gave her a hug and said, “I only have one thing to do, I must call Allan.”
