What do you see when you look in the mirror? How would you describe yourself?
When I looked in the mirror or described myself, I saw an average, brown haired woman of average stature. The words common, normal and typical ran through my mind. I saw in myself an ordinary, run of the mill person with an average life---nothing special. Sound familiar? I saw many things in myself, but the word “great” never came to mind.
“Great” after all, according to Webster, means: more than ordinary; remarkable; impressive; first-rate; renowned. I never would be so bold as to put those words next to my name.
Then I read II Sam. 22:36. “You give me your shield of victory; you stoop down to make me great.” (NIV)
Wow! God stoops down to an ordinary me and makes me more than ordinary. He make me great! He gives me victory! How awesome is that! Without God we may be just ordinary men and women, but when God is in our hearts part of His greatness lives within us and we also become great; not only great, but also victorious.
There is no more ordinary. There is no more run of the mill. There is no more need to feel inferior, dejected or depressed. God stooped down to make us great.
If you truly love God and accept Him into your heart, then His greatness, His victory is in you, too.
Go look in the mirror again. What do you see now?
