Understanding “real life” emerges when we take a hard look at the various types of life that exist. Oh, you didn’t know that more than one life was possible? Let me elaborate on this matter, please.
When you get ready to go to your favorite concert, the mall, or the school dance, each of us goes through a comical ritual I like to call… the morph! We all do it. We all accept it, although many of us may deny the truth of it. Our hair can change with every event. Our cloths take on a peculiar form that expresses individualism in our mind, even if we look as wacky as everyone else. It’s a personal facade that we present to the world commonly known as, Jungian psychology. Let’s just call it persona. It really doesn’t matter if we are city dwellers or country folk; our life style is what we want to project to the world exclaiming, “This is me, this is who I am!” We call this… “Social life.”
Then there is the person that tries to say, “I’m going to live my own life.” So they go to a far off country or just do the opposite of what is expected within their circle of friends. It couldn’t be that, escape is the motive behind their newfound freedom, could it? Watching television for some satisfy this savage beast of individualism within. For others, they must prove to themselves an egocentric element of surprise. How dare you say that I am normal! I’ll show you whose life is boring!
We are born, and then we die, but between these two extremes lives the almighty self, and when we are not satisfied with life, we battle to make our “personal life” worthwhile. We will now try and appoint for ourselves credit for the present time before it is too late, and the bony finger of death points to sets us up for another persons opinion called, our epitaph. When all is said and done, we can only lament that our claim to fame, was whatever our God given gifts were.
How can we ignore the master’s design for our life? The very thing that actually breaths life into flesh and bone is His perfect will for us. Yet, we grope aimlessly searching for that which we already possess. Life, real life, is what we have been given as a gift, and it is not to be held on to without the understanding, that it is to be given away to others. When we are afraid to share our life with others, we are stymied, unable to pour out the blessing of God’s love. God gave His life for you, so that you might give His life through you, to others. This is real life. Embrace it!
