Topic: Prosperity (05/11/06)
Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor seats in the seat of scoffers: but his delight is in the law of the Lord and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields fruit in its season and its leaf does not wither. In all he does he prospers.

Psalms 1: 1-3

Prosperity is defined as an economic state of growth with rising profits and full employment or a condition of having good fortune.

True prosperity cannot be measured in material gain because it is not a tangible thing. So to know prosperity we should not look at the visible things but the things that go unseen for things that are seen are short-lived, but the things that are unseen are eternal.

When you have true prosperity when you are afflicted in every way, you will not be crushed, baffled but not driven to despair, wronged but not forsaken, struck down but not destroyed.

If anyone should lack in earthly prosperity one should not complain out of want, for one must learn, in whatever state we are to be content. One should know how to be abased and how to abound in any and all circumstances. One must learn the secret of acing plenty and hunger, abundance and want. For we can do all things in him who strengthens us.

There is prosperity to be found in godliness, with commitment, for we have brought nothing into the world and we cannot take anything out of the world, but if we have food, clothing and shelter, we should be content with that. But those who desire worldly prosperity must be careful not to fall into temptation, into a trap; into many senseless and hurtful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction. For as is well known the love of money is the root of all evils. It is through this craving that some have ruined their faith with many desires.

As for the prosperous of this world they should not be conceited nor set their hopes on uncertain riches, but in God. They should do good, to be rich in good deeds, liberal and generous. As a consequence laying for themselves a good foundation for their future, so they may have prosperity, which is prosperity indeed.

So what I am saying is know the Lord and he shall make your way prosperous and then you shall have good success.

Overall, good writing, as it is, but you could make it more appealing with a story to illustrate your message. God bless your work.

I agree - without an illustration, a devotional tends to be quite dry. Everyone's pulse quickens to a good story. Good message.

I agree with the 2 previous commenters. One way to work in an illustration is to write in the 1st or 3rd person rather than 2nd person--what happened to YOU to learn this lesson, or to someone you know? And avoid definitions, synonyms, etc. as an introduction. Your considerable writing skills are ready to be stretched beyond this format! I look forward to reading your next entry.
