Love at first sight!! That's what it was!
Shortly after I began working for the USGS in Baton Rouge, LA. the guys at the office found out that I was from Caesar, MS, a small community about 10 miles west of Picayune, MS. They told me that there was a girl that worked at Kresses Department store that they wanted me to meet. They informed me that she was from Leetown, MS, the outskirts of Caesar.
I wasn't really interested in meeting anyone at that time in my life. I was attending Mississippi State College at Starkville, MS and was down for the summer trying to make enough money to attend college. However, to satisfy their ego I agreed to meet this young lady, the flower girl at Kresses. Everyday at exactly 10:00 a.m. we marched out of the office, crossed the street, and sat down at the food counter at Kresses. I guess they had informed her that I was coming over because she was hiding back of the flowers. The food counter had a large mirror back of it so the customers could watch themselves drink their coffee and eat their food.
As luck would have it, while we were sitting at the counter a customer came up to the flower counter and Cindy had to come around to wait on them!! Wham!! Love at first sight. I guess I had never seen such a beautiful girl. Dimples, long brown hair, and the sweetest smile I had ever seen. She kept sneaking glances over at me and I knew from that moment on that this was the girl for me.
Forty-seven years ago this coming July we were wed. We now have 5 children, 20 grand kids, and 6 great grandkids. Is the love still there? You betcha! Is she still as pretty as she was then? You better believe it. Do I love her as much as I did then? More
