As my mother ages and physical strength wanes, the children she cuddled and bathed, now tenderly cuddle and bathe her. Her mind is good but her eye sight has diminished. Yet, reading is her still passion! I remember when I was a teen sitting around the living room trying to ignore this person, she would get so excited while reading her Bible that she would just shout out, “listen to this” and then read the scripture. Of course, back then, it was just words but it did create a longing for that joy in my heart that has never left. I can see now that during this time she was “growing” in the Word. As someone eating a great meal, she wanted her children to taste the fruits of the spirit and grow with her. I can now sit with her and talk about God’s love and riches He has bestowed upon us. We can read together, pray together, and share the inner strength that has brought us closer together. I have learned that inner strength is a virtue that is to be shared and passed along to your family, it is an heirloom of faith. Does inner strength ever weaken? Sometimes. When I see Mom sick and lying on a hospital bed, I say, “Why, Lord?” she has suffered so much. But she is the first to say, “trust in God and let His will be done.”
Psalms 144:1 Blessed be the Lord my strength…… KJV
