Besides, it wasn't all bad. I know my brothers had to do chores at home and even had to make their own lunches at times. In here, I was waited on hand and foot. And I've never met anyone that got more flower and cards than I have. Sometimes they come and it's not even my birthday!
But this one day was so very different than any other. I woke up feeling restless. I had a high fever and my heart was racing. The nurses were worried. They were coming in so often I finally begged them to wait to leave me alone to the next commercial break. Then came the doctors. So much for watching the "Price is Right" today, I sighed.
Now I don't want you to think I don't like the nurses and doctors. They all have been so kind. I especially like Beth who works the night shift. She comes and talks to me on her breaks. She even paints my nails sometimes. And Beth doesn't mind when I just need to cry. She even told me about Jesus and how to be saved. I wish Beth were here now.
I know I said that the noises in the hospital don't bother me. But this one was the eeriest sound I had ever heard. What was it? Please make it stop!
It was the last sound I heard. It was the sound of the heart monitor. My heart had stopped. I say it was the last sound. That's not exactly true. It was the just last sound I heard on earth.
I know because the next thing I knew I was looking down on earth. I wasn't scared because someone who called himself the Comforter was holding my hand. He gently led me to what looked like a court room as best I could tell.
But then Evil entered the room, I smelled him before I saw him. So wretched was he that I knew in a second that it must be the Devil himself.
But then came the Judge. In an instant I saw a light so beautiful and pure. All I could do is drop to the floor and cry HOLY!
Tears streamed down my face as Satan told the HOLY of all the bad things I had done. I had heard Beth say that the Devil was the father of lies but everything he said about me was true. I never felt such guilt. I had to leave before the HOLY heard any more!
But then the Comforter, who had never let go of my hand told me to rise. As suddenly as he had appeard, Evil was gone. Comforter was still beside me and HOLY was still before me. But I wasn't scared any more. Between me and HOLY stood Lovely. It was Jesus.
I ran to Lovely and He told me that the payment for my sin was fulfilled already. Thats what had happened that night when I prayed with Beth. Jesus promised to pay for my sin and the promise was fulfilled.
Just then I felt a jolt. Then another. Then another.
"It's okay," said Jesus. "You're time on earth isn't done. Go fulfill what I've sent you to do."
Back in the room that night, Beth held my hand.
"Is everything okay?" she aked.
"Lovely" I smiled, "everything is lovely!"
