“Well at least it’s a clean break.” Dr. Thomas announced.
“A clean break, does that mean that I’ll be out for the rest of the season?”
Donnie asked.
“I’m afraid so Donnie.” The doctor replied.
Donnie Anders was star quarter back for Jemison High School and now with the high school play-offs coming up Donnie was completely out of the picture.
“Now Donnie, you know there is a positive side to all of this. “ His dad said.
“Positive! Positive! My high school is in the play-offs and I have a broken leg, what is so positive about that?” Donnie cried.
“Well, I’ve noticed for sometime you have been neglecting your morning devotions. Now maybe you’ll have time for God.” Dad said, trying to sound encouraging.
“What are you saying that God caused a two hundred and twenty pound guy to fall on my leg?” Donnie asked.
“No, that’s not what I’m saying Donnie, I’m saying maybe God can use this accident to draw you back to Him. After all you probably need a ‘break’ from football to focus on your priorities.” Dad said.
“But why now, when our most important games are coming up?” Donnie questioned.
“Donnie, I thought you knew that nothing is more important than your relationship with your Heavenly Father. Not even football. Nothing was more important than His giving His only Son for us.”
“I know, but I just wish this lesson would have come after the play-offs.” Donnie said.
“Well son, some lessons are hard to learn, but I have a feeling you won’t forget this one. I guess you could call it a break for a break.” Dad said laughingly.

You could have softened the blow delivered by dad's reference to Donnie's weak devotional life, by putting in a bit more conversation leading to the statement. But this was well written. Blessings.
