“But I want to. I’m the only one who has done it before.”
“Be careful, Sam.”
They carefully filled the condom with its precious contents and tightly sealed it. After lubricating it, he proceeded to swallow it. He chased it down with an herbal tea. If that elixir did its part, in eight hours he would deliver the goods. The hard part would be to find and meet his contact and to make the transaction undetected. But he had a plan. Sam was in control.
Daphnia drove him downtown. He had already chosen Chasers as the spot to work his deal. As he entered, the odd mix of stale beer and cigarette smoke overwhelmed him. “Funny,” he thought, “I used to like that smell.” He also detected the slightest hint of pot, which affirmed his choice.
Sam looked until he found his stooges. First was the blond bombshell. He sat down next to her and shouted belligerently, “Bartender, a drink for the lady and whiskey for me.” He laid a wad of bills on the bar to more than pay for his drinks. Flirtatious small talk filled his time until their drinks came. He drank it down, being careful to spill half its contents on himself. They had to think he was drunk.
Across the room, stooge two spied Sam with his girl. He finished his game of pool before going to reclaim his property. ”Hey pal. That’s my girl you’re hittin’ on. Move or I‘ll bust your face!”
If the lady wants to talk, that’s her business,” Sam said casually. “Get lost, Dog!”
His pool-playing friend hauled back to hit Sam, but before he was halfway through his delivery, Sam had already dealt a blow to his face. “Guys can be so predictable,” Sam thought as he watched the blood spurt from his victim’s nose.
As intended, the blood brought other roughnecks. In an instant, three guys were on Sam. “This is child’s play,” Sam thought as he fought off his attackers. The tussle lasted until the cops arrived - it took four to subdue Sam. He could have fought off six if he waned to - he’d done so in the past - but tonight he wanted to be arrested. And arrested he was.
At the station, they didn’t bother to strip search him. They merely took all his clothes and gave him boxers and a tee shirt. He had difficulty putting these on, as “drunk” as he was. “What’re you going to do with this drunk?” the arresting officer asked. “He almost killed some guy over a woman.”
“Put him in with Preacher-boy. Maybe he’ll kill him and we’ll be rid of both of them.”
Sam overheard their conversation and knew his plan was working. He feigned that sickness that only drunks understand - saliva from the mouth, ready to wretch at any minute, making enough commotion to call attention to himself. The officers quickly threw him into the cell with Preacher-boy. The paperwork would wait until he was sober.
In the cell, Sam staggered to the porcelain god, that’s what drunks call it, even thought this one was stainless steel, and forced himself to gag. He missed the toilet with much of the slime from his stomach, again according to plan. He stumbled to a corner of the room, and using his foot, discretely drew a curved smile in the dust. In another instant he was back at the commode.
His cellmate watched knowingly. Quietly he went to the sink and wetted a washcloth, but before he did, he added another curved arch to Sam’s drawing, finishing the fish, or ichthus on the floor. Sam smiled. He found his man. Now he sat on the “throne” and allowed the contents of his bowels to empty into the bowl. He fell to the floor, this time feigning dry heaves.
The preacher wiped Sam’s face and laid him on the mattress. Then he went to the toilet, cleaning the mess and fishing out the condom. He thought he too might vomit, but controlled himself. After the clean up, he carefully removed the scriptures that were hidden in the latex sheath. He handed the empty condom to Sam who proceeded to again swallow it. This time he truly gagged.
In the morning, bail was posted and Sam was free. Preacher-boy remained jailed for his faith, but even in prison, he continued to witness and their numbers grew daily.
