Wednesday
I’m so excited! It seems like only yesterday that I got saved, and now I get to be in ministry!! Pastor John says that we should work for three months in each ministry in the church, and once we feel like God is speaking to us and we have a passion for what we are doing, then it’s highly likely that that is part of our life’s purpose! I get to be in the ‘American Friends of Foreigners’ group first!
I stayed up nearly all night making a huge poster to put up in the library. It’s full of bright colors and has my phone number at the bottom. I can’t wait for my first call!
Dear Diary,
Thursday
It’s happened already! The lady is from the Philippines and is feeling lonely. I’ve invited her over for dinner tomorrow night. She seemed really pleased to be asked.
Dear Diary,
Friday night
It went SO WELL!! As soon as she sat down I started to tell her all about our church. I told her about the donuts, coffee, music, clapping, dancing, the pastor, his message…everything I could think of. She started to tell me about some place she goes to here, but I had to run because I had to go to the all night prayer-vigil, and anyway, she should forget about that place. I invited her to church this Sunday. I can’t wait to see her get saved!
Dear Diary,
Sunday
I waited for about half an hour in the lobby but she never showed up! I can’t believe it! After all that American food and all my cleaning she never came. I was such a friend to her, and that’s the thanks I get?
Dear Diary,
Monday
I’m so bummed about Nila, but as I was praying God told me to ask her over again. I called her and called her but there was no answer, so I left a message asking where she was Sunday and let her know just how long I’d been waiting for her and that because of her I’d missed the worship. She still hasn’t called back. That’s what I get for caring.
Dear Diary,
Tuesday
I called Nila’s house about 17 times today. I finally got a hold of her at around 11pm. She said she was sorry about my missing out on worship but she had never said she would visit. Hmph! How could she not want to come?? I swallowed all of my anger at her rudeness and asked her if she would like to come over for dinner again. There was a long pause at the other end of the line, it must have been because she was so amazed that I would want her back after last Sunday’s fiasco, but I’m a good Christian; I forgive easily.
She said she can make it on Thursday but can’t stay long as she has to catch up on a project she has for school. That’s OK with me. She is kind of boring anyways, doesn’t talk much, you know the type. Looks like I’ll have to do all the talking again.
Dear Diary,
Thursday
It went SO GREAT! I told her about how I got saved (because I was afraid of going to hell), and that she would be going to hell too if she didn’t do what I had done. I told her about the blood of the sacrificial lamb and how it covers me and how all of my sins are washed into the ocean and how much God loves me now and how I have a purpose and how it was so amazing that she was sitting in my kitchen listening to me and that God had planned it that way because He wants her to be saved too and start coming to our church. She had to go then – her project had to be done. I was very understanding.
Dear Diary,
Sunday
I’ve waited and waited and waited for three days now and Nila hasn’t called me back. I’ve left a gazillion messages on her phone. I even told her that the pastor was willing to come over to pray her through to salvation. If ignoring me is going to be the only answer I get for my hospitality, then this must be God saying that this is not my ministry. Oh well. What is the next ministry on my list? Ah, evangelism. I should be really good at that.
Onward Christian soldiers.
