I wonder what the world would be like if kids were taught to have good manners. Or if parents sat down with their offspring to help them work through homework assignments they didn’t understand. Or if young girls showed modesty in their attire rather than more skin than most people really want to see. And if young men pulled their pants up so as not to advertise to the world the brand of underwear they prefer.
How about if teachers were encouraged to teach students to read, write and do basic math rather than teaching to tests so that the state and national scores looked good. Maybe we would have young people going off into the world able to read anything they needed to read, able to write in complete sentences with correct punctuation and youth working at checkout counters who could count change back to customers and could total the bills handed them in payment.
What if society gave a high priority to good moral behavior rather than modeling a near-complete absence of any morals? Would young people have a better view of themselves if they didn’t sell out to those immoral behaviors they see on the screen, their technology devices and even in their own homes? People might respect others more if they had more respect for themselves.
And what if people actually talked to each other, as in looking each other in the eye and reading expressions rather than texting to the person who might be right beside them. Communication skills could serve the young very well as they go out into the world to have interviews for jobs.
Another question arises as to what our world would be like if people honored God, His Word, the flag and those who are involved in the workings of churches and government. What if people could respect others who hold a different view than their own and could safely communicate their ideals and faith without fear of harm?
Finally, what if society valued truth and chose to live by it. The truth of God’s Word would cause us all to rise above the base actions and words we so often see and hear. God’s Word and adherence to it would allow us to rise above human nature to a higher calling and a more fruitful, meaningful and satisfying life.
