Where Has The Time Gone?



It was 10:45 pm on Saturday night. I was so tired that I wasn’t sure if I could get ready for bed. I know that things go crazy sometimes, but that week was unreal. I needed to review my Sunday School lesson, But I knew I’d fall asleep before I got through the first page of my notes.



“Dear Lord, help me get the rest I need and be ready for those boys in the morning. Amen”



I slipped between the sheets, and I was out like a light.



At 4:30 am the Sunday School Superintendent phoned and said, “I’m rushing my wife to the hospital. The baby is coming. Will you take the opening of Sunday School for me?”



“Yes Bill, you know I will. Marie and I are praying things go well. Call Marie when the baby arrives. I have those sixth grade boys to teach. We’ll see you after Church.”



I prayed for Sally and Bill, then looked at the clock. It was 5:00 am. No time to go back to sleep, so I showered and reviewed the lesson. Then I picked out a couple of songs for Sunday School opening. By that time Marie had breakfast ready.



“Honey. Bill called about 4:30 and said he was taking Sally to the hospital. The baby is on the way. I’ll have to lead the opening of Sunday School this morning.”



“With all you have had this past week, how are you going to find the time at this late date?”



“God is still in control. Besides, I stayed up, reviewed my lesson, and picked out the songs for Sunday School. I’m ready. We can head to the hospital to see the Sally and the baby right after church. We’ll grab a bite to eat on the way. So don’t start anything for dinner.”



“Okay, Dave. I know that you are right. I do want to see Sally and the baby.”



We had our breakfast and headed out the door. The Sunday paper lay unopened on the coffee table.



“Maybe I can read at least the funnies before bed time” I thought.



During the worship service Marie got a text message. Sally had a new baby boy. It was their third child, joining Bill Jr. and Mary Sue.



After church we grabbed a quick lunch on the way to the hospital.



Marie smiled at me, “Bill Jr. and Mary Sue are with Sally’s mom and dad. I think that they both will be thrilled with the new baby. I still don’t know what they are going to name him. Most likely Robert after Sally’s father.”



“I think you are right. But we can’t stay long at the hospital with evening service and that deacon’s meeting tomorrow night. There are a few things I have to go over before that meeting. It would not look good if the chairman doesn’t what’s going on.”



Monday morning, and I just looked at all the stuff on my desk. I know I finished everything up Saturday when I was here for a few hours. Well, I had better get started with those reports so I can send them on to George.



At 5:37 pm I knew I had to eat, as I had worked through lunch.The deacon Meeting was at 7:00, so I had better hurry. I hoped we could finish all the business and have a short meeting – say two hours, not the normal three.



Good, Marie had dinner ready and we ate while she caught me up on her day. “Sally and the baby are doing fine. She came home this afternoon. Bill Jr. and Mary Sue are home too and just want to hold that baby. Your deacon case is by the door. I’ll be up until about 10:30. Please don’t wake me, as I have a ton of stuff to do tomorrow. “



“Yes, Honey. I know and so do I. I love You. Bye”



Thankfully the deacon meeting was short. I arrive home at 9:45.



I had just fallen asleep when the phone rang. “Bill, sorry to call you so late. This is Linda. I can’t get a hold of the Pastor. Jerry just had a heart attack. We are at St. James Hospital.”



“I’m on my way.”



I shook Marie, “Honey, Jerry Just had a heart attack. Let’s go, Linda needs you.”



I know that there are 24 hours in a day, but where have mine gone?

I hear you; I think I could keep up with everything if I could just figure out how to go without sleep!

Putting first things first when a person has so many first things.
Your piece shows what it can be like when interruptions show up at unexpected times but that is what an interruption in life is.

The word "know" is left out of one sentence. When checking for errors, read slowly but if out of time. have someone else read it to you.

Entertaining, even if we see ourself in the picture.
