The home for my dad’s squirrel.
Maple trees in the front
Drop helicopters in the spring
Cottonwoods in the city park
Keep it cool when it is too hot.
Chinese elm guards the driveway
And beacon for workers coming home.
Catalpa gives beans for sword play
And to pretend to eat when on safari
Sequoia tree between two yards
And almost died because it was so small
Grandpa had an apple tree
In the middle of his wheat field.
A peach tree grew
Beside the barn.
And two fat mulberry trees
Gave us food while we played.
Trees make for good forts
And tire swings
To kick higher and higher
And climbing up high to look down low
To watch the neighborhood below.
Trees cover the mountains
In California, not where I’m from
Make paper
On which I write
And firewood for warmth
In the early morning light.
Fir trees stay green all year
And smell so good
They become Christmas trees
And bring good cheer
And are used to make beautiful holiday wreaths
To hang on Grandma’s door.
Oak trees attract crows and squirrels
And make for noisy mornings
Acorns become missiles to throw
At your little brother to chase him home
And their leaves are the coolest shape
For science projects.

I think this would have greater impact as prose with the trees that had greatest meaning to your childhood being the ones you expanded into paragraphs.
Stanzas 4 and 5 interrupt the idea you have already established of telling about types of trees. In Stanza 6 you return to the original idea.I don't know where to place those two stanzas, maybe at the end, maybe leave them out?
A good effort. Keep writing.
