It felt like feathers falling on my face as I walked down the road in the dark. I stopped and closed my eyes, so I could take in the essence of the snow falling on my face. I could feel each big snowflake as it settled and melted on my cheeks.
It was a dark starless night. The air was cool and sent a chill across me as I stood there. Winter was approaching! As I started walking again, I could smell a hint of smoke as someone had their fire place going and the smell of birch wood added a nice aroma to the chilly winter air.
As I walked I felt the sense I was not alone… It was like a shadow was following me…. I thought to myself,” Who would be out here with me walking in the snow at night?” I was alone, and it was late!
Living in a little town didn’t propose many dangers at the hour of 11:00 pm. Many people were curled up in their beds or watching the National news. As I walked by, I could see the flicker of dim lights coming through their windows As I strolled around the neighborhood, I could not stop the eerie feeling I had that someone or something was following me… I kept walking and tried to tell myself” Just ignore it and keep going”.
As I rounded the corner of the block the snow started to thicken and the wind picked up causing my face to sting from the cool air and the snow. I looked up into the streetlamp It was like the beacon of hope that offered a sense of peace knowing that it would light the way and I could see where I needed to go.
As I thought about it, a warmth came over me. I realized that the streetlamp was like our Lord, He is always there to light the way. Even though the snow was making it hard to see, the light kept my path straight.
All at once there was a figure that came out of nowhere and pounced right in front of me! I believe I let out a “gasp” as it startled me and my heart was pounding out of my chest! Once I got myself under control, I realized it was my black cat Diesel! He had stayed back behind me, and was following in the shadows of the trees and shrubs as I walked. I think we were both relieved, at that moment we had each other to walk home with. The snow kept on blowing and my cat and I made it home safely.
