Don't these things sound familiar? We see a glass as either half-full or half-empty. Looking out of the window, we can choose to gaze at the stars above or gawk at the puddle of murky rain water below. Even in a crisis, we may welcome an opportunity. Perspectives and perceptions can shape our attitudes and actions.
In fact, the Bible has a lot to teach us about such matters. Instructed by Elisha, a widow gathered jars from neighbors and friends to fill them up with oil. The oil stopped flowing when no more vessels left, suggesting that the oil would flow on if not limited by the number of jars or her faith. Surely, God's still in control of her world for He sent Elisha to affirm this truth. Jesus invites us to focus on God's Kingdom and the Father will meet our mundane needs mysteriously. He also promises us that if we ask anything according to His will, He will answer us. Despite the situations, whatever the conditions, do we ask Him in faith, believing that He will hear?
Is God still on the throne? Then, the world's in His hands. In our daily struggles, He has the upper hand. Nothing can take Him by surprise. God isn't lost in the midst of political bewilderments, bloodiness and bizarre stories. God is not only present in our world but active too. On 9 March, a terrorist executor demanded a Chad man to renounce his faith in Christ, but the man replied, "Their (20 Coptic Christian men's) God is my God." He then went to glory together with his Coptic brothers. Do we still believe that He's got the world in His hands? More than that, He will give us a new world too.
A loud voice from the throne saying,
‘Look! God’s dwelling-place is now among the people, and He will dwell with them. They will be His people, and God Himself will be with them and be their God. (Revelation 21:3 NIVUK)
