TITLE: The Hole in my Soul | Previous Challenge Entry

I tried making money, and thought it would fill that hole. Buying things felt good at the time; in with the new and out with the old. Yet nothing ever truly made me happy, and the more I had, the more I wanted. "Bigger and better, that must be the way to go" I thought over and over. So I did my best and worked long hours trying to make as much money as I could. But it was never enough, and the hole in my soul grew even larger.
As the hole grew larger, despair crept in and controlled my life. I sought refuge in the bottle, and any alcohol would do. I would drink and drink, sometimes with friends, and other times alone. Some nights I would pass out, not knowing where I was or how I got there, but the baggage I carried always went with me. "How do I get rid of this hole in my soul?" I would wonder. Everything the world had to offer fell short at solving my problem. Then one day, it all began to change.
I bumped into a woman on the street. She had pep in her step, and joy overflowing. Whatever it was that made her that way I was interested in knowing. Even though she looked ragged, she seemed full of hope. So I stopped her on the street and asked her point blank, "What has happened to you to make you so happy?"
She smiled wide and said, "for this is my hope, that Jesus Christ loved me first, and has called me His own. I once was full of anger, bitterness, and despair, bound by an endless cycle of sin, guilt, and shame. But on the day that I found Him, all that has changed. So I must tell everyone I see that my hope lies in the fact that Jesus, my savior, He died for me. Now I have peace in my soul, and joy in my heart, and He has promised that we never will part. How could I not be happy?"
"Jesus did all of that for you? I thought that was just a fairytale. That Jesus could change a life was something I never knew. Is it possible that Jesus could do the same for me as He did for you?" I asked with hope filling my tone.
"Of course He can, all you have to do is seek Him with all your heart. Everything else will just fall into place, as He comes and meets you and fills you with His grace."
"Thank you," I said as I continued on my way. As soon as she was out of sight, I closed my eyes right there on the street and did something that was a surprise. The prayer seemed to come from deep within my being, even though I didn't know what to say or if He would hear me. But something changed that day deep inside my soul. The hole was no longer there, and it was well with my soul.
