It’s the most honoured moment of my life. The dark night still ruling the skies, God’s presence marks the dawn of my day. My clock reads 4 am. I hear my Lord’s wakeup call and I respond instantly.
The glory of the great kingdom of God seeps into my tiny bedroom as a divine cloud while I lay kneeling beside my couch in prayer. Never have I missed the most intimate moment with my saviour.
The Lord of Lords, God of the Universe, a king so great, visits me right in my room. “What have I done for such a great honour? What am I worth for such a great privilege?”, “How great thou art! How great is thy mercy!” leaped my heart in joy.
My heart melts with love and passion for my Lord, tears streak down my cheeks, I welcome His Holy presence singing praises to His great name.
Holy! Holy! Holy! is His presence which transforms my sinful heart and chills my whole being with immense delight, the burden of my heart rolls away, the joy of a content heart runs through my veins from head to foot…..
The quiet time energises me with riches of heavenly grace and prepares me for my day’s work like a programmed instrument in God’s hand… Oh, what a lovely day! I’m now enveloped in God’s presence. The presence of God went ahead of me. This is my story a decade ago.
Years moved on, responsibilities multiplied as a wife and mother, my quiet time with God early morning ceased.
Oops! Snoozing replaced my honourable time. My saviour in His still voice renders me a wakeup call longing for a special moment with me, I shrug and nod….Then rings my mobile alarm….
Oh! No, it’s too early to wake up, let me rest for another five minutes, cried my mind. I walk to the table to fetch my mobile and turn it into the most convenient snooze mode.
Within five minutes, the snooze guy pops up with his wake call. Well, this clock is five minutes faster, so I have extra five minutes to catch up, reminded my sixth sense. Sensible! Agreed my heart….. And I doze off to sleep ZZzzzz…..
The snooze guy was prompt to wake me up after every five minutes. “Oh! what a brilliant innovation! I loved the snooze mode… this is truly an award winning technology”, saluted my heart.
Softly and tenderly, my saviour whispers a wakeup call again, “A very good morning to you Lord Jesus”, I respond in haste trying to rub the sleep off my eyes. Convinced that I have given my Lord due honour, I snooze again.
My ears now fine tuned to snooze’s sweet melody deafens to the voice of my Saviour.
My mind alerts me that there is no pressing need for prayer at this early hour. Rejecting my saviour’s voice I murmur, “Lord, you are so gentle… please give me some time”.
The snooze guy convinces me saying, oh, dear, you deserve good rest. The snooze guy sympathises for me like no one ever in this world. Time and tide wait for none but Snooze waits for me faithfully, I boast.
The tempter’s sympathy seduces me and there I slip into a deep sleep. I sleep till the last possible moment and then I rush and roll; driven by tension I fret and grumble; I race with the rush hour to meet my timelines in vain.
The struggle turns my sweet home into a war ground. The day begins with blaming, hurting, grumbling, piercing and nailing each other’s tender feelings. The cold war continued for years.
An empty feeling ruled our hearts and home. Morning blues robbed my family’s peace and I continued to blame others for all misfortunes……until I realize my slothfulness on one fine day…. How true are the words of the wise king, “The way of a sluggard is blocked with thorns….” Proverbs 15:19. (NIV)
I woke up from my snooze longing for my saviour’s presence to bind us together and restore our relationship....Lord, forgive me, for I have pampered the sluggard within me, I chose to sleep rather than your presence, I wept with a broken heart admitting all my shortcomings. Give me the strength to fight the wretched sloth, all I need is your gracious presence…..I pleaded until I emptied my heart.
My Lord’s unfailing grace descended upon me once again like morning dew refreshing me and my relationship.
