Last week I escaped to Batam Island in Indonesia for a spiritual retreat. Advised to practice Solitude and Silence on our own,I sneaked into a Kelong hut,and began to quiet down and ponder over my longing to come of age as a beloved child of His. I yearn to be the person after His own heart.
Turning my attention to the unspoiled natural world,I couldn’t help but plumbed the beautiful environment to articulate this desire.I soon got inspiration to express what I aspired with much gratitude. With fresh eyes and attentive ears, I scanned the universe above and below, left and right, near and distant, and morning and evening till I sorted out my reflection.
Finally, I managed to pen these recollections in my journal. They run like this:
“Like the morning sun, His warmth will I radiate; like the serene sea,
His peace will I permeate; like the mountains and trees,
His encompassing love will I saturate; like the fragrance of the flowers, His aroma will I ventilate
Like chuckling birds, after His joy from high will I quest; like the dog lying in our midst, in His stillness will I rest; like a solitary kite,
His hovering presence will I stalk; like the minnows swimming in harmony, with His Community will I walk
Like the rainbow after a shower, His gracious promise will I declare; like a gentle breeze,
His grace will I share; like stars clustering in the dark night,
His people and I will firmly stand; like the motorboat riding on the choppy waters, His trajectory will guide me safely into the Father’s hand.
Your matchless grace and mercy is like the galaxy. With open heart and mind I journey towards the goal without being phony.
Indeed, coming of age will be my destiny.”
What a stark reality! This is the beginning of my story that I will continue to live through it—it is indeed a long journey in the same direction!
