Topic: Write CONTEMPORARY FICTION (10/30/14)
Our granddaughter and husband have moved many miles away, taking our precious great-grandson with them. He is 5 ½ years old and they lived close to us during that time. He had problems at birth and was flown Flight-for-Life to Children’s Hospital where he stayed for a month. The doctors didn’t expect him to live. God answered our prayers and saved his life. Every baby is a miracle but this made him even more so. All the time spent with him was a joy and a blessing. He loved to be read to and this is one of my favorite things to do. Neither one of us ever got tired of this. He especially likes Dr. Seuss and I do too. Another thing we enjoyed was baking cookies. He would wear the apron I made him with John Deere tractors on it. He really likes John Deere tractors. He is very good at recognizing what make of car he sees. He likes Fords best. He liked to help Great Grandpa in the garden. He started pre-school at three and enjoyed it very much and continues to enjoy kindergarten now.
I know many great-grandparents and even grandparents don’t get to see their grandchildren often, if at all. I am thankful for each minute we did enjoy him. I need to concentrate on that instead of the huge empty hole he used to fill with joy and blessing. This is easier said than done. There is the telephone and Skype. God will see us through, one day at a time.

This is a well written story coming from the Grandparents view.

Life happens.

Extend this story a little more than the telephone and Skype and relate the child's feelings to make this a fuller story with more feeling.

Your love for your grandchild is palpable throughout this piece. Thank you for sharing your heart with us. My sister is going through a similar, albeit different story currently. She became a fist time grandma, after so many years of praying. But, her daughter moved to the mid-west, and is a plan ride away.

Who knows what may happen in the future, God has a path for all of us. Your path might be close again, geographically. You never know. In the meantime, how wonderful that there is such things as SKYPE. You can read to him and see him on the monitor.

I will keep you in prayer.

Oh - I feel your pain, I'm a grandmother too, and the grand-kids are such a joy. You are an exceptional grandma - I know that your continued love and influence will shape your great-grandson's life in spite of the distance between you.

Thank you for sharing this non fiction peice in such a powerful way. I wanted to know more:eg why did they move away? If you wanted to extend this to being a fictional story you can describe circumstances, observations of where you are, and forward the action on to how it could work out. 1st person past tense may help you developing it this way.
