Topic: Write CONTEMPORARY FICTION (10/30/14)
Joseph worked his way to the front with no thought but to find a solution to a problem that had plagued him for too long. The preacher had spoken of faith that could bring freedom and that was all that Joseph needed. He reached the front and waited. Was this all there was? Did he have to wait forever?

“How can I pray for you?” A kindly gentleman asked.

“I need freedom from pain,” Joseph said with true faith.

“Of course. What is your name?”

“Joseph.”

The man put his hand on Joseph’s head and prayed, “Father, I pray healing over Joseph. I speak release from the pain that holds him in its grasp. In Jesus’ powerful name, I pray. Amen.”

Joseph opened his eyes and said, “Thank you.”

The man nodded and turned to the next man in line while Joseph made his way outside. He looked at the beauty of creation all around, but he was aware that his pain had not ceased. If anything, the pain felt worse than before.

“I’m healed,” A man to Joseph’s right exulted and looked up in worship.

Joseph walked over to the man and asked, “What happened to you?”

The man looked at Joseph with a huge smile and replied, “Jesus touched me. I’m free of the pain and agony that has held me for so long. I had the faith to believe and now I am truly free.”

“That’s wonderful,” Joseph said before walking away.

Joseph walked for a long while aware of the beauty around him and the pain that had held him in its grasp ever since he could remember. He had come to the mountains to be healed and he had failed. His faith has not been enough. The other man had found freedom through faith, but for him there was only pain and bondage.

“Why?”

Joseph looked up at the sky. He thought about the power that could create a mountain, but allowed him to suffer in pain.

“What is the reason why?”

Joseph sat down on the ground in frustration. He had wanted so much and he had believed. The other man had received healing, but not him. Does God play favorites? Does God love certain people more than others?

“I know who you are, God, and I love you.”

Joseph rose slowly to his feet. The pain remained, but faith remained as well and that was enough to keep Joseph going for now. He gritted his teeth and made his way back to the group. He smiled at the sight of the man who had been set free. That would be him one day and on that day he would dance. Oh, he would dance.

Pain can come from accident, injury or sickness. For these we seek out medical treatment.

If medical treatment has not helped, the pain may be something allowed by God so a person draws close to God for his grace and comfort.

God Draws us to him in many way.

The story, though, is well written.

Great story that speaks volumes in message and tone. So many seek "healing" and ask "why" when it doesn't happen. That is when faith and holding onto "His will" is crucial. Your story expressed that quite well.

Sometimes we are more "free" when we suffer some thorn in the flesh - free from sin that is. Peter wrote: "Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind, for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin; that he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God." 1 Peter 4:1-2
But since none of us wish to suffer, it is a challenge to have this mindset!

Very relevant to people in this situation, asking God the why and why not. I'm glad faith in Christ won out. I wonder if someone facing this right now as they read would benefit from the inner dialogue that led to accepting what was. That turning point that could lead someone else to the same conclusion. This has the possibility of impacting someone powerfully.
