A Merry Heart

A merry heart is sure, we know,
Results like good medicine to show.
Laughter reduces tension, it’s true.
Endorphins increase by quite a few.
Laughter our lungs will exercise,
To better circulation applies.

Off of our troubles it takes our mind.
Positive thoughts are good you will find.
Joy and humor are not quite the same.
But laughter is quite often their aim.
Humor should never hurt anyone,
But should bring smiles to everyone.

So, does God have a sense of humor?
Or is that perhaps, just a rumor?
The dodo and giraffe he did make,
The platypus and hog nosed snake,
The ostrich and the manatee
Other animals are there to see.

About a donkey who talks we’re told.
Roof, better than a woman who scolds.
Blessing your neighbor early AM,
Will make an enemy of him.
Better a gold ring in a pig’s snout,
Than a woman, discretion without.

Babies laugh hundreds of times I’m told.
Now why does this change when we grow old?
Consider all this and you will find.
Laughter’s good for body, soul and mind.

Thoughtful and humorous poem. I find it is quite difficult to relate what I am trying to stay within the confines of rhyme. As time goes on you may find this true as well, and move into writing prose that reads lyrically, but does not rhyme. In the meantime - keep working with rhymes, it is good practice and fun!
