The baby had cried all day long. Sandy was exhausted. She had not been able to do anything except pace the floor. Dishes were stacked in the sink. The laundry basket was overflowing. The trash needed to be taken out . No one ever told her it would be like this, she thought. She never knew how tiring a colicky baby could be. Finally she pulled the baby close to her chest and began to rock. With tears streaming down her face she started to pray. She didn't know what else to do. She had never felt so all alone.
Sandy began thinking about the lesson they had read in her class on Sunday. It had been about people in the Bible who faced situations where they didn't know what to do. They too had turned to the Lord. She even remembered the passage in Psalm 107 that told about some sailors who found themselves in the midst of a storm. It became so rough that the sailors could not stand still, but began to reel to and fro. Verses 27-29 say, “They reeled and staggered like drunken men; they were at their wit's end. Then they cried unto the Lord in their trouble, and he brought them out of their distress. He stilled the storm to a whisper; the waves of the sea were hushed.”
There was also a story in the book of Mark, chapter 4, where the disciples found themselves in a similar circumstance. Jesus was asleep in the hind part of the boat when a storm arose. Suddenly they were being tossed about and water was filling the boat. Frantic, not knowing what to do, they went to Jesus. He rebuked the wind and said to the raging sea, “Peace be still...”The wind and waves obeyed Him.
The woman in Luke 8 who had suffered with an issue of blood for twelve years had certainly reached the end of her rope. She was desperate. She had gone to doctor after doctor and none could help her. She had spent all of her money seeking a cure. Then Jesus came to her town and with just the touch of His garment, she was healed.
That same day a man named Jairus came frantically seeking Jesus. His daughter was dying. He didn't know what to do. He was one of the rulers of the synagogue and surely was not a fan of Jesus, but he sought him out. Jesus raised his daughter from the dead. (Luke 8)
Sandy suddenly realized how quiet it was in the house. She smiled through her tears as she looked at the baby sleeping so peacefully in her arms. Yes, Jesus had calmed a “storm” in her life. He is where we should turn when we don't know where to go.
This song says it so well. “It was such a lovely day. The sun was shining bright. The gentle wind was blowing my way, not a storm cloud in sight. Then, suddenly without warning, a storm surrounded my life. But even in the storm I could feel the calm, and here's the reason why.
I know the Peace Speaker, I know Him by name. I know the Peace Speaker, He controls the wind and the waves. When He says “Peace be still,” they have to obey.....”

Like Sandy, let Jesus still the storms that are in your life today. HE is the Peace Speaker and He alone can calm your fears.
