Deciding it was time for a break; Sam took his catch and started back towards his campsite. Starting a fire, Sam began cooking his dinner when a sound crept through the woods and sent a shiver up his spine. It was not the normal eerie sound you would expect from the woods. No bushes rustled, no twigs snapped, it was singing. At first, the melodious sounds had startled Sam, causing a quick burst of goose bumps to shoot out on his arms, but then he became extremely curious as to what could be causing it. Grabbing his Bible as he always did, Sam trekked off into the woods. The sun was just beginning to set, and the forest glowed in a fiery red, that made the trees ignite in a blaze of crimson. What am I doing Sam thought. Why in the world am I going after this noise? Obviously, there is no one in the woods singing. However, his inquisitiveness had gotten the best of him, and he continued deep into the forest. As darkness consumed him, and the shadows began to dance their ballet across the trees, Sam stopped suddenly. He had not heard the tune for a few minutes now, and was not sure if he was still going in the right direction. Unexpectedly, the singing started up again, and it was right behind him! Quickly Sam spun around to see a woman standing there. She was wearing a long, white, flowing dress, and had deep black hair, which went halfway down her back. Since she was not facing him, Sam could not make out her face.
“Ma’am, are you O.K?” Sam asked. The lady made no attempt to respond to Sam, and persistently sang that beautiful melody.
“Ma’am?” Sam questioned again and began to reach for her shoulder. Just then, the figure spun around and Sam was face to face with the most horrific thing he had ever seen. Her eyes were black as coal, no white or color, just solid midnight. The mouth of this beast was a gaping hole, showing razor sharp fangs, ready to devour this poor soul. Screaming, Sam stumbled backwards, nearly tripping over a log. The sirens slowly crept towards Sam, still singing that wondrous sound. Deciding not to stick around, Sam turned and bolted towards his camp, gripping his Bible ever so tightly, he started quoting scriptures. Sensing the beast was right on his tail, he picked up the pace and the volume of his prayers.
“God please, if you’re listening, I really need your help!” Sam made it back to his site and darted passed his equipment and straight for his car. Just as he could see his rear bumper become visible, Sam tripped. Rolling over onto his back, he had just enough time to cover his face, before the monstrosity pounced.
“AAAHHHHH!” He screamed as he sat up in his tent, sweat pouring from every orifice of his body.
“Oh thank you God, it was only a dream. Thank you for you protection and not allowing something horrible like that to happen to me.” As he lay back down on the hard wooded floor, allowing his eyes to slowly shut themselves, Sam laughed to himself. Knowing how foolish all of this was, he decided to go back to sleep. As he drifted back into unconsciousness, somewhere nearby, a woman’s voice sung an eerily, beautiful tune.
