When Claire went to the store you only saw the foods you would expect. Fruits, vegetables, lean meats, chicken. It was all good food you would expect from Claire Reynolds, the dietitian for the entire small town of Winchester.
All appeared good for the first couple of years for Claire and her family, which included her husband James, their sons, Randy and Andy and daughter Megan, they were all neat and slim and involved in many sports activities.
When their turn came for snacks, Claire always had a healthy snack of carrots sticks, celery sticks and maybe some string cheese and a low calorie juice for the team.
But there was one thing wrong with the picture; Claire kept putting on the pounds. It was just a few pounds at first, then more, before long Claire had gained over twenty-five pounds.
Her husband wanted her to see Dr. Mills.
She did, and all the blood work came back with good results, no problems. The Dr. looked at Claire for a moment. “You aren’t hoarding food are you, Claire?”
“No of course not, Dr. Mills, such nonsense. I’m hurt that you could think such a thing.” Claire turned and stomped out of the examination room. “Really!” She walked past the receptionist.
"Claire, do you need another appointment?" The younger woman asked.
“No I don’t! Send me the bill!” You could not mistake the anger in her voice.
The next day was her day to herself; she often went to different towns, she enjoyed the drive and stopping at the little shops. Getting into the car she headed the car north away from Winchester. She had gone about fifteen miles when the Nelson’s Grocery came into view. “This is good, I’ll stop here.”
Finding a place to park was easy, she walked into the grocery. Grabbing a cart, she headed down the aisle. As she walked down each aisle she started putting items in the cart. She had just about all she wanted as she rounded the next aisle. Her cart collided with another cart, smiling she looked up to apologize when her face turned a beat red.
Standing before her stood Dr. Mills and Pastor Headings.
“Hello, Claire, it’s good to see you, do you come here often? We had a meeting here this morning for our group, ‘Hearts and Hearts’ you remember don’t you?” Pastor Headings said. “It stands for taking care of your heart spiritually as well as physically.”
“Yes, of course, good to see you both, I was just finishing up; I have an appointment in a few minutes. Well, see you soon..” She added. Down the aisle she fled. Maybe they didn’t see what was in her cart. The candy bars, chips, cookies, oh they had to see it all.
She paid for her things, put them in the car and started home. She flew into the house, up the stairs with her bags. And straight into her bedroom, where at the bottom of her closet under a blanket was sitting an old trunk. She bent to unlock it and opened it; she put the new items in with the others. Tears came to her eyes; it wasn’t that she had gotten caught as much as it was the lies she had told that made her so sad, and ashamed.
She had been deceitful to everyone. She must remedy this, starting with God, who she was sure was the one that arranged that chance meeting between the three.
Forgiveness from God, the Dr. and Her Pastor and her beloved family was what she needed now, her family needed to see her get rid of this lead chain around her neck, as she dump the junk food from the trunk.
Junk food had over taken her, made her desperate to satisfy the flesh, she knew first hand, how powerful something could be, what it could make you do, the lies you were willing to tell, how easy it was to tell yourself its ok, I’m not hurting anyone, but she was. It was over something some would laugh at, but others would understand, over indulgence in anyway affects you and your relationships. Junk food is junk food no real value and not good for anyone.

The only thing I would have done differently: start with her hoarding the things in her closet, then reveal later on what she's been doing.
Great job with this and I love the message about being truthful.
God Bless~
