Banksia Hill Christian Centre – Prayer Conference
‘Well this is the last day of the Prayer Conference good so far, but this is different. Not many of us volunteered for the retreat. So why did they bring us into town to what they call the Upper Room? A whole day of silent meditation, prayer and fasting, I’m going to needs lots of help with this Lord.
It’s a nice enough room, comfy chairs and sofas. Curly has nabbed one that looks cosy. She’s well settled reading her journal. Her hair looks nice like that those long curls and deep red, looks natural too. I’m mean she’s on the chunky side but what does it matter when your skin looks like cream? Wish I looked like that. Oops there I go again, sorry, we’ll keep working on that one Lord, I know you made me as I am and I do Praise you.
Where’s The Reverend gone, is he for real? He reckons he knows you so well he didn’t really need to come to the Prayer Conference. What was it he said? ‘I’m collecting ideas for those of my flock who struggle to reach the throne of the Most High!’
‘You might want to give Mumsie a bit of extra help there Lord. That’s her second glass of juice and we’ve only been here…what is it, an hour is that all?
I bet she misses her friends, like she misses her kids; she’s always talking about them. I wonder what she keeps in that huge bag of hers. Tough job being a mum I bet.’
‘There it is again. I can smell coffee, real fresh brewed coffee, hot coffee of the ‘scald your lip and never mind’ variety. Lord thank you for coffee. Where is that smell coming from?
Not our little kitchen that’s for sure, iced water and fruit juice that’s all we have. I’d better drink another glass of water.
Goth looks happy…thank you for stopping me from making a right fool of my self yesterday only the Rev sounded quarrelsome. Wait a minute those are ear buds, Goth is listening to music. Still at least he’s here. Forgive me I know I shouldn’t judge.’
‘This veranda is good, overlooking the High street. It’s pretty, a small, country town, but it has a buzz. Look at those trees they must have been here since Grandpa was a pup. You did a really good job with trees Lord they’re so, so big, and the air mmm so fresh.
Bacon! I can smell bacon… what’s going on down there? A café, you mean there’s a café down there, a café serving brunch. Croissants, that couple are having freshly baked croissant and coffee. What are you doing to me Lord?
Okay I’m staying inside maybe the smell won’t come in! So Lord what do we talk about next… oooh that’s toast I can smell’
‘Mumsie seems to have settled she’s writing like crazy now…Was that a sniff, from Curly? I bet she’s having a deep and meaningful with you while I’m just wasting time with my endless chatter.
Perhaps I should try saying proper prayers like the Reverend. I wonder where he went.
‘That’s not hot bread is it… oh why does it smell so good? Do you know Lord it reminds me of mum’s big pot of chicken vegetable soup. Every Sunday after church, we and anyone who cared to join us would sit down to a big bowl of soup and fresh bread. We’d all have time to talk and listen; picking up the crumbs with our fingertips long after the pot was emptied.
Thanks for small blessings and such a wonderful family Lord…’
