She cast her mind back to that horrid day six months ago when her mother came over for dinner. She didn’t know this visit would change her life forever. Her mother had not been well and had decided to go to see her doctor. He ran many tests and found that there was a lump in her breast and that it was breast cancer. “Oh mom, How did this happen? How are you feeling? What did dad say? “ Her mother looked into her baby blue eye’s, seeing the tears swelling quickly, and reassured Tammy that she would pull through.
A month has past since her mother’s death and Tammy was not sure how she could live without her. With tired legs and an aching heart, Tammy was walking home from work when she heard music in the distance start to play. To her amazement and right before her eyes, a forest pops up with music playing softly behind the trees.
Eager to see where the music came from, she entered, and saw flowers bopping back and forth in sync with the trees, reminding her of the time she went with her dad to a basketball game where the crowd would wave in unison. Peace overwhelmed her as the rain started to drizzle from the sky.
While she thought to herself how moist and soothing it is to her skin. She leaned back opened her mouth in great anticipation of the saturation of thirst being quenched from within. A sense of God’s presence overwhelmed her and took Tammy’s spirit for a spin. She became lightheaded and crumpled like a puppet to the ground.
When Tammy awoke; curious of what she might see, she looked up and gazed at puffy marshmallows speeding by. Her stomach growled as the clouds passed before her. She gazed closer, and saw God sitting on his throne with a smile from ear to ear, and tapping his feet to the rhythm of the mighty beat. The angel’s gathered round, twirling each other amongst the crowd. One looked into her baby blue eyes and gave Tammy a wink, to which she wondered why?
Leaves, like snowflakes started to fall, floating to the ground gently right into her lap. The sunflowers were hitting against each other sounding like clashing symbols and the rain like beating drums. She could hear birds' singing songs of joy, causing a teardrop to form in her eye, for her mother lived daily for the music from the sky.
Tammy cupped her hands to catch the raindrops falling from above and sat on the leaves once perched on a limb. “Oh Lord” she cried, just then she saw a lamb bounce by. She laughed, as the lamb had a stick in his hoof and was happily conducting the ants, trees, birds, and the flowers. Tammy enjoyed listening to the sounds that came from all that God had made.
The rain intensified, and it tickled her face and drenched her hair that was once straight, was then replaced with ringlets of curls dancing on the ground. Knowing she still needed more of Him to soothe her soul, Tammy opened her mouth and took more in. After being filled, she turned her head to see what was moving in the corner of her eye; with scraps of food on their head, she saw ants marching to the beat. Tammy could almost feel the ground move from the rhythm of their feet.
Laughter drowned out the trees, the entire animals couldn’t even contain the joy they felt inside. Tammy sat for hours watching the joyous occasion of being apart of His creation. It was then Tammy realised there was no music that brought her here. It was a godly lullaby, a sense of happiness among God’s own creations. Altogether, singing and dancing in the rain, forever grateful for the one who loved them enough to give them life.
Later that day as she thought of what she saw, a smile formed on her face as she realised; the angel that winked at her was indeed her mother having fun with all the others dancing to the “Rhythm in the Rain.”
