A pilot has the responsibility of many people in their hands and it is imperative a mistake cannot be tolerated. To minimise the risk of mistakes they are accountable to a checkout pilot. A checkout pilot is one that helps another pilot to operate and pilot another aeroplane of which he or she is not familiar with. This may include the checkout pilot to go on a flight with the unfamiliar pilot to that aeroplane.

Because of how complex aeroplanes are, a thorough checkout for the new pilot for a particular aeroplane is required to verify the competency of the pilot. It is also important for the pilot to study the flight and operation manual before taking off in the desired aeroplane. A pilot needs to study engine and flight controls, fuel management controls, wing flaps, landing gear and radio equipment techniques. It is also imperative to adhere to the manual for correct take off and landing procedure.

The closest I have come to being checked out in my own experience is when I went for my license the first time. My driving test instructor told me I was doing really good. At that moment I looked away from the road and went over a double line marking on the road I shouldn't had crossed. At that moment, I didn't do so well. I didn't get my license on that particular day.

If a pilot lost focus or wasn't familiar with the instruments, It could be tragic for hundreds of people on board. So it is with us, if we are not familiar with what God wants us to know. While it is without a doubt, our pilot is the Lord Jesus Christ, we need a checkout pilot when we go through unfamiliar experiences in the ministry. Our manual, the Bible needs to be followed for our own lives. Our pride needs to be kept in check so we can become better pilots for our Lord Jesus Christ.

As for my license I got it the next time around, when I changed gears in the car after I turned the corner instead of before the corner.

You see, even when we make mistakes our Lord is still our checkout pilot.

My brother was at one time certified to be a Cessna pilot. If you loose focus of the horizon, you will get lost. In some cases, you need to trust your instruments and not your instincts. Just like you said, trust God and not in your own abilities.

I like this kind of devotional--it uses real-life examples to illustrate spiritual truth.

My only suggestion would be to make your to make your tone a bit more conversational and relaxed, as if you were talking to a friend, and to be sure you don't repeat yourself.
