She came to the ladies meetings with her mother, where once I remember she shared her feelings of being left out by the other young people in town because of her convictions. Since I first came to know Carlie, I have admired and respected her for her stand for Christian values and how against much resistance was able to live out her faith.
Carlie loved horses. Her family owned a beautiful horse farm where Carlie spent hours riding, teaching riding and making a small business of her own by buying and trading the beautiful animals she loved.
During her junior year of high school she got a part-time job at a local equestrian stable club. James, the club owner’s son took a fancy to Carlie on her very first day. He asked her out several times, but she would not accept his invitations because of her beliefs being much different than his.
After high school graduation she went to work full-time at the club, so she and James spent a lot of time together. He asked her to the Club spring dance. Although James was a good looking young man and she could not deny her attraction for him, Carlie was confident that she could resist his charms.
Although Carlie had planned to remain a virgin until married, in a time of weakness, she gave in to James. Carlie was convicted of the wrong she and James did, and determined to break off any relationship with him. It wasn’t long however, before she learned she was pregnant. Frightened, ashamed and wanting to run away, this sweet Christian girl did not feel ready to be a mother.
What to do, what would her parents say, and what would people think whirled through her thoughts. Her parents were loving and forgiving. It was not easy, but they faced the situation together with much prayer and seeking direction from God.
Carlie sold out her plans for one night of passion, but she would not sell out her values to the world’s way of handling an unplanned pregnancy. She had sinned, made a mistake that would change her life, but she would not consider making it worse by taking the life of another.
A beautiful baby girl with strawberry blond curls and a smile like her mother’s, captures the hearts of all who meet her. Carlie’s church is accepting and loving. On any given Sunday morning you can see several people lined up to hold this beautiful bundle of joy.
Carlie is working through her guilt by the support and love of her family and the help of her Lord and Savior. The sweetness and light that came into her family and church is a reminder that God can take even a sin and turn it into something, or should I say someone beautiful.
