The answer lies in how you welcome Jesus.
Are you a motel? A motel type of Christian allows the Lord a room for a few hours on a Sunday, then hands Him the bill and sends him on his way until next week without another thought. A motel Christian does not wait on the Lord. He hands him the key and points Him to the vending machine. If Jesus should buzz the front desk because the room is too cold, the motel attendant is likely to reply that he’s too busy, too tired, underpaid and overworked, and can’t accommodate the Lord right now. After all, there is a business to run. Maybe Jesus will come back next week, maybe not. It doesn’t matter to the motel because there will be other customers.
Then there’s the hotel. This is one of a chain that is striving for the five-star rating. The hotel attendant greets the Lord and hopes he will have an extended stay. The red carpet is rolled out, the room is clean and warm, and there are fresh flowers filling the room with a wonderful fragrance. The hotel cannot do enough to humbly wait on the Lord. He does not have to call for room service, the attendant knows what He desires and has it all ready for Him. The attendant waits outside the door humbly, hoping that he will be asked to do something. That is his only desire. All other matters can wait. In fact, the entire hotel is emptied out for Jesus’ stay. The hotel’s hopes and prays that Jesus will stay forever or at least come back very soon.
And there will be no bill because we owe Him – more than we can ever repay.
