A poor destitute black woman lay exhausted from throwing herself against the padded walls of her cell. She gives her mind over to the demons of depression and hopelessness that lead to her nervous breakdown. $76 dollars in food stamps, no shoes in the middle of winter, and a husband that abandoned her, would life ever be worth living?
A young girl lay on the hospital bed, waiting for the nurse to tend her wounds. The black eye from where she accidental hit the doorknob was already swollen and the cracked rib from tripping on the stairs was making itself known. The cops would press her to fill charges. She had to get out of here and back to him before they came. If he thought she turned him in, he would be mad, or worse he might leave her. Her father had left her, and he killed himself. Her mother had left her and she fell into a bottle. Her life and had never been the same since, she was five and they said that word, “Divorce.” She longed to find someone that would be there, someone that would care.
A fourteen year of girl found herself weeping at an alter. Touched by God she wanted to be used. How could she an uneducated, farmer’s daughter make an impact on the world? It not like she was a doctor able to heal the hurting. She was scared even to stand in front of a crowd. Surely, the Lord could not use her could he?
As a six-week-old baby, she had gotten an eye infection. Her parents being poor sought the only available doctor, a quack. He left her blind. Her father died when she was only one and she was raise by her mother and grandmother in poverty. She had no reason to sing for joy, did she? Could God use her voice to make a difference?
An unwed teenager living in a poor county village wondered silently in her heart, what difference one like her could make to the world. She did not live in a palace; she did not come from a wealth. Neither her parents nor she held any political power or influence. She listened daily to the rumors about her unfaithfulness and shame. Who would remember her name two years from now?

2nd Kings 6:17 “Then Elisha prayed and said, ‘O Lord, I pray, open his eyes that he may see.’”
Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you, ‘declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’”
We often see people and ourselves as inadequate, worthless, ineffective and unusable by God because of our failures, defects or what was done to us. But God sees into the hearts and says I can use this, and from out of these ashes I can give life. He see past the hurts and scars to what he made us to be; loved, wanted, valuable, prized, holy, pure, powerful, useful, child and heir of the King. If you like me are in the fire, hold on, there is a light on the other side even if we cannot see the form that it takes yet. He is no respecter of persons. What he can do for one, He can do for you and me. Lord, open our eyes that we may see ourselves as you do, that we can see the path before us.
