The scent of eucalyptus wafted through the air. I inhaled deeply. The trees lined the road as we drew closer to the coast. Silently, I envisioned a kola bear nibbling on the leaves with me hugging the adorable creature. The air turned noticeable cooler as we approached the seaport town, a welcome reprieve from the hot, congested freeway. We drove unhurried through town. Cars were parked alongside the road. People were milling around, looking for souvenirs or a place to eat. We drove past the marina, glimpsing boats of various shapes, sizes and colors. We pulled off the asphalt road and into a dirt-gravel parking area.
We grabbed our back-pack and walked toward the cliff, which overlooked the Pacific Ocean. We’ve always enjoyed water: lakes, streams and oceans. My husband grew up in southern California near the coast. While grew up in Michigan, I spent time at a summer cottage near Lake Erie. I was amazed at the vastness of the lake. All I could see was water. I’ve never lost that wonder. We took deep breaths of the salt-water air. After some time, the loud, familiar noises of the sea lions could not be overlooked. Ark! Ark! They cried for our attention! We walked down the well worn trail. Removing the blanket from our back-pack, we laid it on the grass. We sat on our Joseph’s coat-of-many-colors blanket, as we watched the sea lions through binoculars. They memorized us as the wet-slick sea lions dove into the water and slipped back onto the rocks. They were like children wanting to hear the same story over and over again. We watched with delight.
“Look,” exclaimed my husband. “Do you see what I see?”
“No.”
“Look over there,” as he pointed his finger.
Rising to our feet, we looked out on a humpback whale, moving at rhythmic speed. We could count on one finger the humpback whales we’ve seen at the Bay. We grabbed everything and fell in sync with the whale as it made its way around the Bodega Head. It spewed out water. We raced along the cliff to keep up, watching his every move, until he was only a speck … then gone!
“Hey, it’s way past lunch,” said my husband as he looked at his watch. “Ready to get something to eat?”
“Yes, I could eat a whale.”
We both laughed as our stomachs growled in unison.
We headed to our favorite sky-blue snack bar. Although the weather was pleasant, the air-conditioning was a welcoming reprieve from the heat. The smell of fish permeated the air as we walked into the building. We watched as the caught of the day was brought in and cleaned. The employees worked quickly and with precision. With our order placed, we stepped aside and waited. My husband ordered a bowl of clam chowder and we both ordered fish and chips. Our mouths watered. The aroma teased our noses. When it comes to seafood, there’s nothing like fresh from the ocean. The clams in the chowder were fresh and tender – not chewy. The cod tasted so good. It melted in our mouths. If we weren’t so full, we’d have ordered more. We were satisfied.
I was reminded of two verses: “Taste and see that the Lord is good…” and “Your words are what sustain me. They bring me great joy and are my heart’s delight, for I bear your name, O Lord God Almighty.”
As food satisfies our physical hunger and needs, spiritual food, God’s Word, satisfies our soul. Amen.

I'd suggest yopu read it aloud or better yet have someone read it to you before you hit submit. There are several little errors that you would catch. For example you said caught of the day instead of catch of the day.
I could almost see the sea lions and the whales and feel the salty breeze from the ocean. You took me on a pleasant outing.
