Have you ever pondered,
a day without taste?
Just one of life’s many delights
for granted we take,
morning til’ night;
Just think on this, when--
you next take a bite.
Some nights I dream
Of breakfast
Come mornin’ the sweet scent
of coffee
Stirs these ol’ bones,
awakens this sleepy head,
I must now leave the confines
of this dear cozy bed.
Barbecued ribs, manners have not
Greasy and messy, a must—
But, oh what a pleasure
To these taste buds of mine
When each finger is licked
Tis’ simply sublime,
it's the only way--
ribs to enjoy, really--
Try it some time.
What would Thanksgiving dinner
Be like
If ol’ tom turkey you could not savor?
Pass the mashed potatoes and gravy
And yet they’re lacking the flavor?
Or cranberries red—
Fresh rolls from the oven
What good would the butter do?
Gramma’s homemade stuffin’
Aunt Emma’s muffins
I couldn’t bear it--
could you?
Corn on the cob, oozing
with butter
Watermelon juicy and fresh
My chin needs wiped—
But, oh who cares!
potato salad, just how I like,
Strawberries and cream
On homemade shortcake,
Is truly, summer’s delight.
Although my taste buds are droolin’
For a drumstick or—
Chicken breast fried,
I’m reminded of a food so much better,
Even Gramma’s cookin’
cannot compare.
This bread was not baked in an oven
On this earth,
It comes from--
the Throne room of God.
The Psalmist said—
O taste and see that the Lord is good
Matthew tells--
Man shall not live by bread alone
But—
By every word
from the mouth of God
yes spoken by Him alone.
So as we ponder the joy
Of eating
The pleasure from the morsels
We taste
Remember it’s only for
A season.
God’s table is spread
With a feast that won’t end
O taste and see
that the Lord HE is good!
Try it
You'll like it,
God’s eternal food!
Pass the angels food cake, would you please.
