TITLE: Labor Pains | Previous Challenge Entry

“Gosh, I hope it’s not another roadblock. It feels like we have been walking around these same lobes for hours,”remarked Inspiration.
“Yep, yep, it’s another block. There’s a sign; what’s it say Flash? What’s it say?” Spark asked.
“Let’s see, it says: Danger! Road Closed-- High Stress Levels Ahead.”
“Oh no, not again,” Spark and Inspiration replied in unison.
“That makes the third roadblock today. Now it’s high stress levels, last block was total exhaustion, and the one before that read high waves of extreme hunger,” Flash retorted in disgust.
The trio trudged on disillusioned toward their destination, until a loud roar briefly halted their progress.
“Wh-What’s that Flash?” Spark asked quivering.
“It’s alright fellas. It’s just that stomach down under talking to her again,” Flash replied ignoring the noise. “Alright we’re at a crossroad here; we can either go right or left.”
“Ahhh, it’s that way Flash,” Spark replied, pointing as he read the map upside down.
“Then left it is. Hey Inspiration, are you ok? You’re awfully quiet.” Flash inquired noting Inspiration’s sedated demeanor.
“I’m ok; I’m just worried I won’t get there before her deadline. Her emotional state feels so hopeless and lost right now.”
“Keep your chin up little fella, we will get you there in enough time for you to save the day. Hey look, there’s a new street sign up ahead,” Flash noted. “Maybe we’re finally getting somewhere. Give us some light on the subject Spark. It says Logic Drive. Oh no, I have a bad feeling about this.”
Flash was a seasoned neuron, originating from the thalamus region that had been on many a mission to reroute misguided information. Spark, on the other hand, was just a newbie neurotransmitter created for one function, and one function only.
“Wait, I can see two more signs, Flash. It looks like, uh, Math Row, followed by Organizational Avenue,” Inspiration recited squinting.
Flash slumped down, and let out a long deep sigh. “Ok fellas, come have a seat over here on the gray matter. We have a problem. It appears we’re in the left side of the brain, and we need to be in the right. Let’s see that map again, Spark.”
“Ok, ya see here, we need to get to this bridge to cross over to the right side,” Flash stated pointing on the map.
“So what we need to do is, turn right here on Analytical Ave and cut over to the Judgment Superhighway. Now listen, you need to be careful on that superhighway, her stress level is so high that those neurons will be running wild.”
“Flash, I-I don’t know if I can do this,” Spark stuttered. “They move so fast.”
“I know, but once we get to the bridge, the pace will slow down again,” Flash said patting Spark on the back.
“Inspiration, are you with us?”
“I guess so, Flash. What we’re doing is important right?
Absolutely! You’ve watched her night after night pace the floors trying to think of what to write. She’s stuck. We’re like, uh, the blockbusters.”
Inspiration smiled and said, “Yeah, we’re the blockbusters, I like that.”
“When your writin’ gets stuck, who ya gonna call? Blockbusters!” Spark sang and skipped as they approached the superhighway.
“Ok, enough already Spark. Remember if we get separated we meet on the bridge.”
Suddenly, the hectic momentum on the Superhighway came to a screeching halt, and the neurons switched from hyper-speed to a snail’s pace.
The trio travelled safely across the bridge into the right brain without a hitch.
“What just happened Flash?” Spark asked.
“Shhhhh, listen. She’s talking to Jesus. It’s called Divine Intervention,” Flash whispered smiling.
“That’s good huh?” Spark asked.
“Absolutely, she’s ready for the birth of Inspiration now; no more roadblocks.”
“Look guys; we’re here. Imagination Avenue, we made it, we made it!” Spark exclaimed, jumping up and down. “Wow, look at all these cool, wavy colors. Ha, look over there Flash, a daisy is smiling at me.”
“I see it Spark, I see it.”
“It’s time Inspiration!”Flash announced.
“I’m gonna miss you guys,” Inspiration said sniffling.
“Ok, stop your blubbering. Get a hold of yourself little buddy, it’s your big moment. Make us proud,” Flash said holding back the tears.
Oblivious to the goodbyes, Spark just twirled in circles totally absorbed by his surroundings.
“Spark, Spark, are you ready to carry Inspiration to the surface?”
“Yep, Yep. We’re the blockbusters!”

I love the crossing over from one side of the brain to the other, and the writer's spark giving birth to inspiration. A very, very creative and original entry. Well done!
