If you asked me to describe anger, would you expect me to paint a picture of a positive emotion? Anger rarely seems positive. And yet, to me, the story of God’s love urges me to view it in that light.
The Word given to me in Jeremiah 30:24 says, “The fierce anger of the Lord will not turn back until he fully accomplishes the purposes of his heart. In days to come you will understand this.” (NIV)
Let me ask you this… Was it God’s fierce anger with sin that caused Him to send His only Son, Jesus to the cross? I dare say it was. It took God’s anger to devise His awesome plan of redemption. It will take His continued anger against my sin to sanctify me and get me ready to enter His Holy Presence.
He gives me no options in Hebrews 12:14 where he says, … “without holiness no one will see the Lord.” (NIV)
How can I dare think, I would have a chance to obtain that kind of holiness on my own? No way! I need Him, every day!
Sometimes it’s hard for me to remember that this world is not my real home. I only journey here. In His love, He has given me the opportunity to get to know Him as my Savior in a very personal and intimate way. He waits patiently for me to grow in my desire to serve and love Him above all others.
When I struggle to choose the right paths, He sends me a helper – His Holy Spirit.
He comforts and guides me, and is constantly shaping and remolding me in preparation of living with Him where He is.
The fierce anger of the Lord is for my ultimate good. I am glad he vents his anger towards the sin in my life, because that proves He loves me and looks forward to embracing me in his arms forever!
