I was in awe as I stepped out onto my mother’s back porch early that spring morning. The sky was so blue and crisp, it was as if you could see right into heaven. I remember breathing deep and closing my eyes while feeling the overwhelming calmness that flowed throughout my soul. It was indescribable. I have seen days that looked like that since, but this day was special. It was my wedding day. I could only wander what my soon-to-be husband was thinking, what he was feeling. I wandered if he could see that God was giving us His blessing by making our wedding day one of the most beautiful days I have ever seen.
The church, filled with family and friends with pews that were decorated with wide blue and white ribbon matched the long, beautiful royal blue bridesmaid dresses. The bouquets we all carried were filled with white roses accented with the same blue ribbon and bows.
All the guest and family were greeted while entering the reception by everyone in the wedding party. The tables were draped with white lace tablecloths with fancy blue ribbon and blue bows. Each window held white candlesticks and flowers with the same matching shade of blue ribbon and bows.
Even though the day passed in a blur of quick activity, I feel the day was borrowed in the sense that I have not seen any day since then, more beautiful. The blue sky, blue bridesmaid’s dresses, the blue ribbons that outlined the tables in the fellowship hall of our tiny country church, and the flowers with the perfect shade of blue ribbon and bows are what made my wedding day perfect. It’s no wonder why today after twenty years, blue is my favorite color.
