“Auburn, Amber, & Gold”

There lies the meadow below…
Kisses of auburn, amber, and gold.
The sun’s rest heightens its glow;
Crisp, new days are about to unfold.

The Aspen ponders the change.
“All bright colors, but where is my green?”
He peers at friends within range.
“Everyone’s bright but yet so lean.”

He doesn’t feel so wispy now.
His leaves make more of a rustling sound.
“What weight I have on every bough.
No wonder trees shed on the ground.”

He has clung to leaves for such a time.
They’ve been just like small hands to him.
“But I know that I need to climb.
So, weights I’ll remove from all my limbs!”

But what a colorful display…
Kisses of auburn, amber, and gold.
“Can’t I keep them one more day?
They look so splendid, I’ve been told.”

Wind then tampers every leaf.
The Aspen’s arms struggle to keep
every kiss that seems too brief.
Like the Willow, the Aspen weeps.

Soon his leaves begin to fall.
His body of bark feels a bit bare.
The Aspen, though, starts to feel tall.
To lightness of limbs, one cannot compare.

There lies the meadow below.
Burdens of auburn, amber, and gold.
The Aspen’s smile starts to show.
His life story is much to behold.

The Aspen soon informs his friends:
“Hold not to leaves but our Maker instead.
He knows what’s best when Autumn ends,
for He sees the Winter months ahead.”

Proverbs 3:5 “Trust in the Lord with all you heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.”
