Becoming a shadow of her former image.
Years spent under the foe’s control,
Realizing the deceiver does not keep its promises.
Believing the lie, just a little bit more,
Yet never being satisfied.
Desiring to melt away,
To slowly say good-by.
The groans that words cannot express
Being spoken on her behalf.
A bit of light piercing the darkness
Exposing underlying hope.
Trying one last time
To break free of the monster’s control.
Barely hanging on,
But unwilling to let go.
Seeing just out of reach
What she wants to be hers.
The present before her
In darling paper and a bow.
Noticing the letters on top
That spell out the word FREEDOM.
Oh to touch the reward, to receive
And embrace the pretty little box as her own.
For unknown reasons,
Knowing freedom will soon be hers.
Sensing its imminent presence
In front of and inside of her.
Listening for the soft whisper
As the delicate package is placed in her hands.
Hearing, “This is yours to have and to hold
From this day forward.”
In tears of gratitude,
Holding the gift close to her.
Feeling the release,
At the same time being filled.
Receiving peace, joy
And strength to take the enemy’s place.
Living a new life
With a freedom that lasts.
Realizing the beauty
Of seeing with her heart.
Receiving more
Than her eyes alone could behold.
Reflecting on stunning images
Viewed over the years.
Believing none were as beautiful
As the pretty little box.
