Topic: Twilight Years of Life (07/02/09)
My Day


The sun in the sky says my day should begin
But my body says ‘no’, it just wants to lie in.
Yet I struggle to rise and meet some success
Then I reach for my clothes and put on a dress.

My movements are slow and I totter along
To get me some breakfast my life to prolong.
An egg and some toast and a good cup of tea
Will help me to get through the day before me.

What should I be doing before I get tired?
I’d call up a friend but my credit’s expired.
I shuffle around, then sit down for a bit.
Oh, what was it like when I used to feel fit.

Soon, soon it is time to have a coffee break
So I sit me down with a nice piece of cake.
Before I can know it my head starts to nod
I just have to give in and take to my bed.

An hour or so later I’m up and about
I want to do something before I give out.
I go to the garden some weeds to pull up
But my knees misbehave; they feel like they’re stuck.

Back into the house I lie down for a while
I don’t feel too good and I can’t raise a smile.
Not too long ago I could hop, skip and jump
Today it would seem I am just an old frump.

Oh where are the days when I used to feel good
When I’d clean up my house and cook my own food.
I would call on my neighbour and stay for a chat
Our friendship was great and I so loved her cat.

Are those days gone for ever, no hope of return?
Will I always feel weary and long to lie down?
How I wish I could run and jump once again
But my body says ‘no’ for it can’t take the pain.

I believe there is hope for the days up ahead
When I’ll have a new body like what Jesus said!
It won’t be for now, so I will just have to wait
Till my Father is ready and He’s never late.

The rest of my day no doubt will be spent
Just ambling around with no great intent.
But now I feel better when I look up above
For I know I can rest in my dear Father’s love.

Hi Ruth. I just wanted to leave a quick note to let you know your entry, My Day, actually did very well in the Twilight Years Challenge. Although you didn't receive an award, you made it into the Highest Rankings for Level 1, placing 11th in that Level.

There were a lot of entries this week, and the competition is always intense in Level 1, so you deserve a pat on the back. :-)
