Full and Empty
We have an interesting story about this emptiness and fullness. A rich man wanted to entrust his entire property to one of his three sons. Hence one day he called them and told them about his decision. “Look, my sons, I want to retire from my busy life entrusting all my property to one of you. Before that you should prove that you are really able to maintain them. For that I give each one of you a separate empty room which you have to fill with something just in one day. You can fill it with anything you like.”
The sons were very happy to hear such an easy proposal. Each one had his own idea. They were busy in carrying out the proposal of their father hoping that each one is doing the best filling. After the stipulated time their father came to check what they had done.
The eldest son opened and showed his room. It was full. It was full with all kinds of waste materials. They could not even enter the room because of the bad odor and choking stuffs. They went to the second son’s room. When he opened the door they could not even put one step inside because it was filled with suffocating smoke. He had burnt something inside which was filling the room with such suffocating and irritating smoke. The father was disappointed at their decisions.
Then they went to the third son’s room with a heavy heart. When he opened he door to show them his room, they were surprised by the soothing smell of flowers that filled the room and the bright light in the center that created a heavenly spell in the room. Not only the father, but also his brothers accepted his decision and understood what is really full and empty.
Empty Minds full of Negative Thoughts
Jesus has clearly stated about words and thought that come from inside. “For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks” (Matthew 12: 34) If the positive heart is full of positive thoughts it can give good ideas. But if it is full of negative and evil ones what can we expect except evil ones?
Empty Mind is Full of Negative Thoughts
It is because the minds are so full of negative thoughts that we find them unable to bring out positive solutions to the problems in life. We have heard that idle mind is the workshop of the evil.
How to Get rid of These Negative Thoughts?
First let us be careful that the mind is not empty. It should be filled with the positive thoughts of God. When these thoughts of God fill our minds, slowly they will displace all the unnecessary ruminations. Just as light dispels darkness, focusing our thoughts on God rids our minds of darkness ad cleanses our minds.
Let Us Fill Ourselves With Thoughts of God
We find that our life on this earth is full of miseries. We are always tormented with trials and tribulations. We groan in all kinds of pains though we take medicines and preventive measures. Even our friends and relatives who wait on us are unable to alleviate our pains. We should realize that these painful situations are the outcome of our negative thoughts and negative life. At least at this stage we should turn to God. He is the only solution. Only His thoughts in us can relieve us from these tormenting pains.
