I just don’t get it. I do no not understand; how important people that have nothing are to
God. As I look at Jesus and the word of God; I see bits and pieces of how God feels, about the
poor. “My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has been
mindful of the humble state of his servant.” Luke 1:47-48 emphasis mine Perhaps being in a
place of great need is where we can have of great faith
God knew how desperate the people of Mary’s day were. The people were in bondage.
They had been in bondage a long time. That is why Mary said, “He has performed mighty deeds
with his arm; he has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts. He has filled the
hungry with good things but has sent the rich away empty.” Luke 1:51 and 53. Maybe being
empty is the way to be filled. And being desperate for something more than this world can offer;
is how we get filled. Perhaps the good things that Mary was referring to were things that only
God can give. Perhaps the rich are those have no need for God. And have no desire to seek Him.
Or perhaps, are so full of the things of this world; that that they have no room for God? Or God
is someone who will get in their way? Maybe their life all planned out? And coming to Jesus is
not part of the plan.
Its a matter of the heart. What we decide is important will be important. Do we desire a
relationship with God that is genuine, authentic and real. Or are we more concerned about things.
If we desire a relationship with God more than anything else then we never be satisfied with
things. We will have an emptiness that only God can fill.
