There is a place of quiet rest in the darkness just before dawn, where cares of the day have not yet infected my soul with doubt. There, near Your heart, Lord Jesus, You beckon me into the stillness and peace that blankets my world only before the sun rises. Bathed in the Light of Your presence, spiritual deafness disintegrates, transforming Your Words into Life, Your ways into Truth, and Your Love into reality! Distractions melt away, and for that brief time alone with You the veil that separates heaven and earth rises to reveal Your waiting arms.
How humbling to experience Your heartbeat, for it is so different than mine. Yours is Love perfected; mine is love conditional – selfish and self-centered. Yet, in that precious time alone with me You never scold, condemn or intimidate. You simply pour out Your grace once again, wash the shame of humanity from me with the blood You shed on Calvary for my sins, and pour out that blessed assurance that You will never let me go. Nothing about me is hidden from Your eyes; not even the secret places I try to keep from You - yet You choose to sing over me the Songs You hear Your Father singing, to speak over me those things You hear Your Father saying, and to do through me those things You see Your Father doing.
Yes, there is a Place of quiet rest in the darkness just before dawn. Without it, I would not wish to take another breath or face another day.
