So “what is the kingdom of God like? and whereunto shall I resemble it?” If it is impossible to communicate the kingdom of God using the pictures that belong to this world, then God’s kingdom must consist of things this world is not. God’s kingdom then, must be peace, it must be painless, it must be sincere, it must be pure. If the kingdom of God cannot be equated with things on earth, then it must be equated with God himself. Therefore God’s kingdom must be mercy, for “God is merciful.” It must be true, for “God is faithful.” It must be comfort, for God is “the God of all comfort.” The kingdom of God must be more that ink can express. It must be Holy, it must be love, it must be gracious, righteous, eternal, and more than that, it must be “joy unspeakable and full of glory.” As “his greatness is unsearchable,” so must his kingdom be.
“What is the kingdom of God like? and whereunto shall I resemble it?” It must resemble not what we see, but what we would even hope to wish for, not what we have, but what we would dream to desire, not what we can reach, but “above all that we ask or think.” It must be contrary to this world. It must be, a different world. Thank God!
