Many times when we have foreign cuisine we see where in the world the ingredients and accoutrements come from. They become part of the Blessing and Grace of all those that have created, prepared or come to our table in any way. So, Thailand, India, Mexico, Japan, Iran and the Mediterranean area are some of the places and peoples we bless.
Then I remembered my socks. My socks have been in New Zealand and India before they were on my feet. John had business partners with pasture management and forage seeds in New Zealand and Holland. He developed a catalogue with agronomy info and grass seed varieties. Along the way he found some other products that he felt farmers should know about, namely New Zealand socks, and knives that fisherman used, and there were several other products under what he called “John’s Emporium.”
When we made a business trip to New Zealand, we saw lots of dairy and sheep farms, wonderful paddocks of rich grass for grazing and we also went to the sock factory. It’s well known that there are more sheep than people in New Zealand. The merino sheep wool was being knitted by machines that were coded by computerized patterns. We were told that the wool was shipped to India to be spun then loaded upon another ship back to New Zealand to be knitted into the socks.
Now I thank the people of New Zealand and India for the fruit of their labors and keeping my feet warm.
