ADD TO MY FAVORITES
Maybe it is the desire to please, to make others happy. Each person has a favorite and some have more than one. My sweet hubby likes fruitcake and Martha Washington balls. That’s the taste of Christmas for him. One sister likes dishpan cookies with their crunchy nuttiness while another thinks Christmas has to include lemon meringue pies to be Christmas. A brother-in-law loves cocoa fudge, rocky road candy and banana pudding and I personally love it all, but my favorites are the spicy raisin cookies and gingerful biscotti.
Or, maybe it is just tradition; I’ve always done it this way. Christmas cooking has been a part of my family culture since I was a baby. Even when we had little money to put gifts under the tree, there was always an abundance of good food from the farm. Mamma’s turkey and dressing, cranberry sauce, corn, peas and other vegetables loaded the table for our noon meal and then came the pies -- pumpkin, sweet potato, apple and pecan. Family and friends were all welcome to join us for the feast.
Whatever the reason, Christmas for me is the time for cooking and sharing lots of good food. Since the weather is getting cooler, this is probably a good time to start testing some recipes to find new favorites. Maybe there will be at least a few that are lower calorie and less fat than my usual goodies.

Some of the baked goods you were describing made my mouth water. Thank you for sharing this, and good luck baking this year.
