As Helen held the picture, she felt heaviness in her heart at the remembrance of her friendship with Sherry. It was not the same now. Right from the time Helen became a Christian, there was a gap between them. Sherry was not very happy about Helen’s sudden change of spiritual outlook. She somehow found it difficult to take in Helen’s perception of life. After college the girls were busy pursuing their careers and ways of life.
Helen never persuaded Sherry with her faith. She only silently prayed for her friend to be saved; for she saw that Sherry did not show any interest in spiritual things.
The once close friendship slowly faded away as years went by. Now they were married and had kids. Surprisingly they both were married around the same time but settled in different countries.
Four years later when they met, Helen was full of enthusiasm and eagerness. She felt that she would have a memorable time with her childhood friend. But Helen’s happiness was short lived, a week before when Helen spent two days with Sherry at Sherry’s mother’s house.
Sherry had changed with time. She was proud of her career and achievements in life. All the while Sherry boasted about the house she built, the way she brought up her kid and the way she balanced her family and work.
Helen became very sad. Sherry had forgotten all the carefree, innocent and wonderful childhood days they had together. Life was only about success, money and prosperity for Sherry.
Helen came back home disappointed; for all the hope of renewing the gap between them failed. She felt as if her friendship with Sherry had snapped.
Tears rolled in Helen’s eyes as she looked at the picture for the last time before she put it back in her closet.
