TITLE: Snap The Squirrel | Previous Challenge Entry

Breezewood, Indiana, lived a squirrel
by the name of Snap.
He lived in a large oak tree in
Christian park where he would watch
the children play and families have
picnics.
One day, Snap was laying on a
branch all stretched out, watching
the children play, when one of the
little boys looked up and saw him.
Look! he said, See that squirrel
laying up there.
All the other children gathered
around the tree and looked up.
Snap sat up. He had been so comfy
laying there, but now that the children
was staring at him and chattering about
him, it was making him very nervous.
Snap decided to make it known that
he did not like being stared at, so he
started to talk to them in squirrel
language.
Snap...Snap...Snap Snap Snap.
The children started laughing and
squealing with delight at the funny
noise that Snap was making.
The little boy said, Do you hear
that? He don't bark like all the other
squirrels. He makes a snapping sound.
He's so funny.
Now Snap heard what they said, and
his feelings was hurt. He scurried up
the tree to his nest and hid.
The children finally went home, but
Snap stayed in his nest for days. He
cried and complained to God.
Why God Why? How come I have to be
so different from all the other
squirrels?
After three days went by, God finally
spoke to Snap.
Snap, he said, Come out here on this
tree branch. I want to show you
something.
Snap slowly made his way out and sat
down.
With his tail tucked under him and
tears in his eyes, God put his arm
around Snap and said; Snap do you
see that squirrel over there by the
park bench? See how he wobbles and
doesn't walk straight and can't run?
Yes. sniffed Snap.
Well said God, when he was just a
baby, he accidentally fell out of his
nest and it crippled him.
Oh! said Snap.
And do you see that squirrel over
there by the fountain trying to get a
drink but keeps slipping because he is
missing a front paw? said God.
Yes, said Snap.
He was running across the street
said God, to get back to the park and
he got that paw caught under a car
tire that almost took his life.
Oh My! said Snap. That's terrible.
Now Snap, said God. If those two
squirrels can over come bad things
that happened to them, you can over
come children making fun of you. They
don't realize, I made you different for
a reason.
Do you want to know why? said God.
Yes, Why? said Snap.
Well, said God, Some of those
children that laughed at you, that was
the only happiness they had that day.
One of those children had to go home to
a parent that woudl hurt her on a daily
bases and another had to go home to no
parent being there for them.
You see Snap, when they listen to
you make your funny little noise like
you do, it makes them happy. Even if it
is just for a few minutes, it's the best
few minutes they've had in maybe days,
or weeks, or maybe even years.
Wow! said Snap, I didn't realize
that.
The next day, Snap decided to make a
difference in the world he lived in.
Everyday, he would run the park just
looking for people to snap at. When he
would see them laugh, he would know he
made their day a little brighter.
At nights before he would curl up
in his nest to sleep. he would thank God
for making him different, to have a
voice that would snap instead of bark.
