I’ve knelt in prayer and learned of the vigor of faith, and used it to seize
the splendor of life.
My eyes caught sight of an eagle in flight, gliding through the skies of America.
I’ve listened to the song of a red robin,
and in quietness heard the sound of silence.
I’ve seen the magnificent sunrise and felt the warmth of its rays.
I’ve planted seedlings and nourished them with tenderness,
and witnessed the mystery of life unfolding.
I’ve watched the blooming of a rose,
and felt the fulfillment of beauty.
I’ve felt the coolness of raindrops trickle down my brow,
spoke silently to the Lord of my sorrows,
while I listened with my heart
to the pitter-patter of the rain splattering upon my window sill.
I’ve felt the intensity of the wind caressing my face,
and experienced the passion for my life,
contained within my soul.
I’ve observed the mystery of fire as it danced an illusion,
and felt the warmth of love and the limitations of control.
I’ve partaken in the changing of four seasons,
played within the breaking waves of the sea,
and witnessed the impressive variations of blended colors materialize on leaves,
right before my very eyes.
I’ve been blinded by the falling snow
as a blanket for winter covered the ground.
I’ve walked in the light of the night,
glanced up and found the man in the moon smiling down at me,
and I,
smiled back.
I’ve mediated on the stillness of a lake in my back yard,
and felt tranquility embrace my mind.
I’ve flew above the clouds and looked down,
And felt the serenity of my spirit.
I’ve explored the waters above our ocean floors,
and I’ve discovered
another stupendous creation
flourished within this awesome planet.
I’ve walked where they said gods once walked,
and felt the searching of my soul.
I’ve listened to my brothers and sisters cried out in American, English,
Spanish, Greek, Gaelic, Italian,
Hebrew, Latin, French, Chinese, slang,
and sign language
all seeking contentment
from outside their existence,
that could bestow upon them inner-peace.
I’ve noticed the twinkle of the stars in one’s eyes,
and I’ve perceived the wretchedness hidden behind eyes of a clown.
I’ve encountered life with the heart of a child,
and I’ve felt dependence and curiosity,
so, I seized the growth of self-esteem
in a fragile stage.
I’ve experienced life with the mind of a teenager,
and I’ve felt the lack of understanding and the confusion of purpose,
so, I seized the dream of knowledge
aggressively.
As a young adult,
I was inspired to listen to my elders as they spoke
of their triumphs and defeats,
and I was thankful for the blessing,
that enabled me to capture a glimpse into their wisdom.
Now I live in the autumn of my life,
and I can feel the fulfillment of my life thus far…,
sharing with you the gift of love,
life’s most precious legacy.
